Choosing a 2 ton Lennox heat pump
The Merit ML14KP1 is from Lennox's entry line, and Elite models (EL16KP1, EL18KSLV, EL19KPV, and EL21KLV) sit a step above. The EL16KP1 and ML14KP1 are single-stage and run at full output; the EL18KSLV, EL19KPV, and EL21KLV are variable-speed and adjust output to the load. One ton equals 12,000 BTU per hour of cooling, so a 2 ton unit and a 24,000 BTU unit are the same size. Size it from a Manual J load calculation, and treat your old unit's size as a starting point only.
A heat pump cools in summer and heats in winter. Pair it with a Lennox air handler, or with a gas furnace and coil for a dual-fuel setup.
