When an 80% furnace makes sense
An 80% AFUE furnace is non-condensing and typically vents through a metal flue, which often makes it the simpler swap when you're replacing another 80% unit. The ML180 and EL180 are single-stage. The EL280 and SL280 are two-stage, with a low stage for milder days. If you want higher efficiency and can run PVC venting and a condensate drain, compare Lennox 93%, 95%, 96%, and 97% AFUE furnaces.
