What a 97% AFUE furnace means for your install
A 97% AFUE furnace is a condensing furnace. It vents through PVC pipe and needs a condensate drain, so plan for both if you're replacing an 80% unit that used a metal flue. The EL297 is two-stage, so it runs on a low stage most of the time and steps up on the coldest days. To compare efficiency levels, see Lennox 93%, 95%, and 96% AFUE furnaces.
